Opening Reception: Friday, July 5th, 2019 | 5-9pm
Nahcotta is thrilled to present our first solo exhibition of artist Derrick Breidenthal’s paintings, on view from July 5 through July 28. Utilizing depth and vivacity of color, as well as illumination, Breidenthal manages to produce imagery at once stark and startling while familiar and beautiful.

Walker Fine Art / Denver CO
Opening Reception: Friday, January 11, 2019 | 5-9pm
Exhibit Runs Through: March 2, 2019
Group Show including large oils by Derrick Breidenthal

Albrecht - Kemper Museum of Art / St. Joseph, MO
“Diffusion” invites the viewer into the artistic process of Derrick Breidenthal. Projecting videos and photography in the studio allows Breidenthal to diffuse, replay, distort, and adjust perspective of his imagery. By doing so, he is able to move past simply documenting research material with paint and instead uncover soulful moments that help determine the heart of his paintings.  View footage from St. Joe and surrounding areas in an unfamiliar way but with a very familiar feel. Running through early April, 2019.

Derrick Breidenthal's paintings have been showcased throughout the US and abroad. His art is heavily influenced by rural America. The combination of severe space, light and color in Derrick's work reveal much more than the precise site itself. Vibrant and enthusiastic to traumatized and bare; these are the landscapes that emerge in his work.

"In my studio I create within my own visual vocabulary. My measure of success and failure. I am pushing my criteria relative to my observations.  For the viewer I hope the work extends past an agreeable composition and links them to their own story and history."

Some permanent collections include, H&R Block, Kansas City, MO, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, MMG Worldwide, Kansas City, MO, The Faulconer Gallery, Grinnell, IA, W Hotel Collection, Detroit, MI, and Viceroy Snowmass, Aspen, CO. Derricks paintings are widely collected across the country and abroad.

Derrick is a Missouri native, moving back to Kansas City in 2004 after 10 years of living in Colorado. His studio is based in the Crossroads Art District in Kansas City, Missouri.

Artist Statement
I am drawn to the comparison of what I hope for and what I know to be true. I pursue methods that enhance the perfection of a dream, as well as hold up to the roughness of reality. I use abstraction tempered with realism to emphasize these inconsistencies. This combination creates a tension that drives my paintings.
