The Monotone series is based on separating the color image into monochromatic components or layers. A process similar to traditional color separation. The result is a series of multiple images. Each of these separations is then inverted to arrive at the subtractive primaries. The individual separations become derivatives, or parts, of the original art work. The visual interest in these layers motivate the final image. Each image contains a unique separation quality. The image is then re-processed into a nine color archival pigment print. This reductive procedure also allows for a technical review of the original work. The final image is not simply a monochromatic twin of the original art, but a sibling of the original.
